Description:
Learn and understand different filmmaking theories, the history of film and various film movements.  From film’s beginnings to the classic “Hollywood Style”, genre, gender studies and the aesthetic elements in film, past and present students will gain a broad overview and understanding of film, history and film theory.

Instructor Bio:
Tony Armer is an Award Winning Filmmaker that has worked in the TV/film industry since 1997.  His work experience includes Hollywood feature films, documentary features, independent features, television and music videos.  He is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Sunscreen Film Festival held annually in St. Petersburg, FL.  Founded in 2005 the Sunscreen Film Festival is one of the top film fests in the country.   It was voted one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the Country” by Movie Maker Magazine in 2009, Best Film Fest in Tampa Bay by Tampa Bay Magazine for 2012 and has been honored as one of only 23 Film fests in the USA to be sponsored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars) for 2013.
The fest regularly attracts several hundred filmmakers and top entertainment industry talent to the Tampa Bay area.  Guests have included actors John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Patrick Wilson, Billy Dee Williams, Jeff Donovan, Michael Rooker and Bill Cobbs.  Producers Ralph Winter (X-Men, Fantastic Four), Sean Covel & Chris “Doc” Wyatt (Napoleon Dynamite), Screenwriters Steven de Souza (Die Hard, 48 Hours), and Timothy J. Sexton (Oscar nominated for Children of Men), as well as numerous actors, distributors, sales agents, casting directors and producers.  
Tony studied Communications at the University of Toledo, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Business Management from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and is finishing an MFA in Motion Pictures and Television from Academy of Art University, San Francisco.  He is also currently an Adjunct Professor at the Art Institute of Tampa.
